01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

If goya champuru is what brings you to Umasando, consider pairing it with a draft Orion beer. Diners have remarked on the dish’s gentle bitterness and generous portion, making it a satisfying centrepiece for a meal. One visitor described Okān’s special fried chicken as “the size you’d get at your parents’ home”; it is also a substantial serving. Listed at 800 yen, it works as a snack with beer or as a heartier choice when you are hungry.

For a taste of several Okinawan dishes, start with small plates such as sukugarasu tofu, island shallots or mozuku seaweed tempura. Taco rice and Okinawa soba are among the options for finishing the meal, so the menu suits both a drinks-focused evening and dinner centred on food. Alongside draft Orion beer, there is a wide selection of awamori. Zanpa, Kikunotsuyu and Zuisen are also offered as tasting sets of 3 varieties, including aged awamori. Choose a single pour or sample a set alongside Okinawan dishes.

Some diners describe the restaurant as cosy, and it can suit a solo meal or dinner with friends. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 17 to 23, and closed on Mondays.
